Dateline: Santa Fe, 19th July 2024.

If you read any business or finance news, you would have found it impossible not to notice that there was another Davos this year. Davos is the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual event at which the global elite fly in by private plane and helicopter to discuss global warming, inequality and that sort of thing. I rather agree with Andrew Curry, who says that the worst thing about the event is the temptation to take it seriously, but nevertheless business leaders do turn up and make speeches and it can be useful to listen and identify the key themes. This year, as would expect, artificial intelligence (AI) was centre stage. I am naturally very interested as to what this will mean for retail financial services and, in particular, how the industry will change when the customers are bots.
